You may have read an article in the press recently regarding our school meals service. Last week there was an incident where food that had been left out to defrost leaked out of its packaging. This was identified before 8.30am, and relevant persons notified in order that we could ensure that food that went out to the children was not in any way spoilt by having been potentially open to contamination. It would seem that a parent has managed to gain access to the kitchen via the back entrance and has taken photographs before staff arrived to clear up, and the parent has gone directly to the press rather than speaking to staff at school, or at the Department, who could have reassured them that the matter was already being dealt with.
I would like to assure you that the Department of Education, Sport and Culture have addressed any immediate issues, and are also looking at improving storage facilities in the kitchen. The matter of a breach in security is also being taken very seriously, and I would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents / carers who come into school that they should do so via the main entrance and school office.
